HEARTandHUSTLE Skills and Showcase camp, formerly known as Arizona Evaluation Skills Academy (AESA) and Super Elite 48 was again for it’s third year a grand success. Over 60 student athletes filled the gym for a two day camp that included basketball transition drills, competitive games and skills instruction by Christian Simmons and James Parker. Keil Moore and Chris Hansen of Prospects Nation were in attendance for the duration. Keil and Chris also helped out with instruction, transition offense and skill work. On hand were players from ASU Women’s basketball and Grand Canyon Women’s basketball.

The title, McDonald’s All-American, is one of the most coveted certifications of any high school athlete. It’s an acknowledgement that they have achieved the pinnacle status of their sport, one of the best in the country, a confirmation of all their hard work and dedication. Most of these young student athletes that achieve this success dedicate many hours to getting better and make many sacrifices over the course of their teenage years. It comes at no surprise to see many of them exhausting every resource to be challenged, sharpen their skills and seek out top competition. One of the best opportunities to accomplish these goals is to attend the high octane, positive and challenging environment found at Chris Hansen’s Check Me Out Showcases. 2015 saw 4 camps held at various times throughout the country, (Seattle, NorCal, SoCal & Minnesota). These camps are elite in every aspect, from the training, competition, coaching, and evaluations. Six players of the MCDAA 2016 class attended a Check Me Out camp. Another six or so attended affiliate camps EBA or Keil Moor Fall Showcase. All in all over half of the 2016 McDonald’s All-Americans participated in one or multiple camps.
I’ve been privileged to work the Check Me Out and Keil Moor Fall Showcase camps over the course of the past couple years and am honored to have had the opportunity to work with so many talented young athletes. Some of them I had the chance to workout privately 1on1 or in small groups in extra workouts prior to our sessions or between sessions. Jeannie Boehm is one that has a tremendous work ethic and advanced skills set. We had a great time Sunday morning in Minnesota before the final session, using up the greater part of an hour working on low-mid post and face up offensive moves and pivots. Destiny Slocum is a highly competitive player that will stop at nothing to get better, perfecting primary and counter moves off the dribble. She will spend every extra hour in the gym like she did in SoCal as we worked on her hesitation blow by, freeze jumper and killer cross-over.
I can be reached on my contact page or twitter.com/wcghoops I’m very selective of the players I choose to do individuals with. I’m looking to help as many as are committed, dedicated and determined.
Fall is a busy time of year for us to host, participate in skill and exposure camps. Players are on somewhat of a hiatus from club basketball and for most states, official high school practice doesn’t start till late October. This year we started things off with our very own Super Elite 48, held in downtown Phoenix Arizona, September 13-14. Then it was on to Minnesota for Chris Hansen’s Check Me Out Midwest October 11-12. We worked with a deep pool of talented players from the area including #16 nationally by ProspectsNation.com and Kentucky commit Lindsey Corsaro. Minnesota was followed up by a very successful Norcal Check Me Out Showcase in Oakland, October 18-19. Some of the regions top players were in attendance like Washington commits Mai-Loni Henson, Aari McDonald, Cal commit MaAnne Mosley and USA team members Kristine Anigwe (Cal Commit) and Sabrina Ionescu. The fall showcases came to end in Philly and College Park for the Keil Moore Fall Showcase. Again, some of the regions top prospect student athletes were in attendance (PN #12 Kaila Charles, GT commit- Martine Fortune, Jordan Wilmots).
September 13-14 saw another very successful coming together of the state’s most talented players for West Coast Girl’s Hoops’ Super Elite 48. Each participant went through various skill stations overseen by a great and experienced staff. They all played in five competitive games and received valuable tutelage throughout from the coaches and trainers.
The event was covered by two NCAA compliant scouting services, JumpOffPlus.com and WestCoastGirlsHoops.com . On hand to provide media coverage was the nation’s leader in girl’s basketball coverage, ProspectsNation.com . Also AZGR made an appearance to get a look at some of the talent.
